One of the chroniclers of Bulgaria’s post-communist transition has passed away
It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the passing of photojournalist Georgi Georgiev – Johnny (1946–2026).
He will be remembered as one of the most prominent chroniclers of Bulgaria’s post-communist transition — with a keen eye, integrity, and a lifelong dedication to documentary photography. Through his lens passed defining moments and key figures of our recent history, leaving behind an invaluable visual archive. He realized a large-scale project comprising over 50,000 original photographs taken in the two decades following November 10, 1989, which can be viewed at www.prehoda.bg
His passing is a loss to the entire photographic community.
